The holiday season can be both a happy and sad time for many of us, especially senior adults. Many seniors will be spending much needed time with family during these next two months. Others may have a loved one missing from these gatherings because of illness or death. Some seniors may not have any family to spend the holidays causing some depression or suicidal thoughts. So, if you know someone that will be alone for the holidays, invite them over to share in your traditions!
A couple years ago, Pathfinders Downsizing Solutions talked about the tradition of “gratitude” and created an Attitude Gratitude Challenge. One thing that should ring true for all of us, and that is we all have something for which to be grateful. Having an attitude of gratitude during tough or emotional times can sure help you get through whatever you are experiencing. Intentionally take a moment to be still and thoughtful about all the blessings in our lives. From the big things to the little things – we are all truly blessed.
The root of happiness and joy is gratitude, and we challenge you today to take the Pathfinders Downsizing Solutions Attitude of Gratitude Challenge. Here’s how it works:
- Grab a roll of adding machine tape or a tablet with plenty of paper.
- Write down 1,000 things for which you are grateful.
- It can be your child(ren), spouse, or family member,
- Or the smell of apple cider, roasted marshmallows, or a particular scent
- Places you’ve visited, gifts you’ve received, business associates.
You get the idea, right? Give yourself a goal of just 10 things a day to add to the list, the first week, then up the goal to noting 20- 25 blessings a day. In no time you will have written down 1,000 things your grateful for and will amazed to see how quickly your attitude will change.
Feel free to share your experience with us on our Facebook page. We love to hear from you! Share the challenge with your friends and family too! November is the perfect month to start the Attitude of Gratitude Challenge!!
